I'MMORTAL - Uncanny Valley mv still

I’MMORTAL’s spellbinding music video for ‘Uncanny Valley’, released April 16, 2025, via KALTBLUT Magazine, marks another triumph for the New York and London-based avant-pop innovator. Born in California, I’MMORTAL—a producer, vocalist, visual artist, and creative director—burst onto the scene in 2023 with her tech-house debut ‘Versace Spaceship’, followed by hits like ‘Supervillain’ and ‘KILLED U IN A DREAM’, amassing over 250,000 Spotify streams. Remixes by Droid Bishop and biskuwi earned spots on NewRetroWave and DJ Mag Spain, while tastemakers like CLASH Magazine, EARMILK, and NOTION have championed her work. Trained in orchestral violin and theater, her sound melds EDM’s gritty bass with influences from Björk, SOPHIE, and Sevdaliza, captivating fans of Billie Eilish or Pastel Ghost. Her synesthetic vision fuels vivid visuals exploring AAPI identity, femininity, and the tension between nature and artifice, cementing her as a rising force.

The ‘Uncanny Valley’ track is a glitchy avant-pop gem, weaving creaky sound effects, sharp trap beats, and autotuned vocals into a club-ready bridge that dissolves into eerie, futuristic beeps. Directed by Victoria Gong, the video is a chilling sci-fi spectacle, with I’MMORTAL facing her robotic clone in a pearlescent showdown. Nurses checking her pulse and Turing test scenes evoke a clinical vulnerability, reminiscent of Gong’s earlier work, like her 2022 short film Echoes of You, where stark medical imagery probed identity’s fragility. The video’s dance-fight climax, choreographed by Dove Che, mirrors Gong’s knack for blending raw emotion with sleek visuals, as seen in her 2023 music video for Zoe Kazi’s ‘Flicker’, which used dynamic movement to explore inner conflict. In 2025, the video’s symbolism—clones clashing in a sterile world—feels like a commentary on AI’s growing grip, reflecting anxieties about authenticity in a tech-saturated era where deepfakes and algorithms blur human connection.

I’MMORTAL shared: “Working on ‘Uncanny Valley’s’ music video was truly such an amazing collaborative experience. The director Victoria Gong conceptualized the vision, led such a talented team, and was able to pull off such a cohesive and stunning video experience. She is such a visionary, yet is so detail oriented, and knew exactly how to go about representing my artistry and my track visually. She really captured the eerie essence of ‘Uncanny Valley’ perfectly, while keeping the integrity of a pop video. Having two identical humanoid A.I. robots undergo a Turing test, and then fight to the death in a choreographed dance-fight scene is definitely my idea of a cutting edge pop video! I really love incorporating movement into my videos, so I was super excited when Victoria came up with the brilliant idea of having a choreographed fight scene that is also an abstract dance piece. Dove Che, our movement director, is such a genius because he knew exactly how to execute Victoria’s vision of balancing dance and fight. I had the most amazing body double, KiKi Song, who is such a talented and versatile dancer. Together, the four of us rehearsed the movement for a couple of months, I think it really paid off in the end.”
