Since unleashing Revengeseekerz in April, a self-produced burst of hyperpop ferocity and EDM overdrive that drew critical nods for its genre-shredding intensity, Jane Remover hasn’t let up. The Chicago transplant, who emerged from New Jersey’s DIY electronic circles at 17 with the raw digicore of Teen Week and leveled up through Frailty‘s emo-glitch sprawl, has spent the last year teasing fans with standalone tracks that hinted at their restless evolution. Picture the post-rock sprawl of Census Designated meeting the dariacore experiments under their leroy alias, while also holding down monthly NTS mixes and sharing stages with JPEGMAFIA. Remover’s knack for turning personal fractures, like the burnout and transitions threading their discography, into sonic puzzles has built a cult following. That following now gets the payoff with ♡, a compact EP out December 5. It collects four standout 2024 singles and adds two unreleased pieces, framing the year’s output as a cohesive snapshot of their boundary-pushing sound.
Remover wastes no time, leading with ‘Magic I Want U’‘s frenetic synth stabs and vocal glitches that capture the jittery rush of online infatuation. The sequencing builds from there: ‘How to Teleport’ eases into ethereal layers of delay and soft distortion, evoking a shoegaze drift amid the beats. ‘Flash in the Pan’ snaps back with its indie-edged hyperpop pulse, crisp snares cutting through fuzzy bass that still buzzes from tour adrenaline. ‘Dream Sequence’ brings a hazy close to the reissues, its ambient swells and chopped samples folding into a meditative loop. The new duo shifts gears subtly. ‘So What?’ grinds with gritty, guitar-laced minimalism and half-time drums that nod to rage’s undercurrents, while ‘Music Baby’ erupts in stacked arpeggios and euphoric drops, a shot of experimental pop energy that ties back to Revengeseekerz‘ wilder swings.
