Das Mörtal returns with DECVY I (Decay), a seven-track mini-album released October 30, 2026 via Lisbon Lux Records, arriving a year after his previous project ORIGINS. The release marks the first in a trilogy exploring the physical and psychological unraveling of the self, set against a backdrop of obsession and exhaustion. Now based in Montréal after formative years in Berlin, Das Mörtal has amassed over 32 million Spotify streams, with his work featured on prominent Retrowave // Outrun and Darkwave playlists, and supported by global radio and YouTube tastemakers. Since 2015, he has played nearly 100 live shows, including over 70 across the U.S. and Europe, with festival appearances at Osheaga, Transmusicales, FME, and MEG, and tour support for Vitalic, Perturbator, and Carpenter Brut. Influenced early by Steve Moore and Aphex Twin, Das Mörtal crafts a sound that fuses German techno with the cinematic tension of horror and sci-fi scores, resulting in a dark, nostalgic sonic signature.
Born out of personal health issues, DECVY I is a collection of hypnotic synths, heavy percussion and a distinctly dystopian palette of dark techno, witch house and trance. It kicks off with the trance-punk fury of ‘DRAIN ME’ which is all about the frustration of being subjected to medical testing, ‘GHOST’ is witch house in its most melancholic form and is a track of solace in the face of grief. ‘PARASITE’ is darkwave in its delivery and it’s about the illness being an invasive creature. ‘NO CONTROL’ is a very downbeat synthwave piece which is essentially a meditation on the feeling of having no control at all. The second half of the album is definitely more intense. ‘THE ENDLESS’ is a very strange blend of euphoric trance and witch house which is a very good way of representing the feeling of endless suffering. ‘IT KEEPS ME UP’ is dark techno with a very dystopian edge and it’s about a mind that is simply being kept up by pain. ‘RESTLESS’ is the focus track and it’s all about those washed out synth plucks and the swelling basslines which build up to a very explosive synthwave breakdown of guttural bass and plucked 1980s style synths. It’s a very intense track with the lyrics about restlessness and isolation and is very much in the vein of Vitalic, Perturbator, Boy Harsher and Ø [phase].
Das Mörtal shared: “DECVY I is a snapshot of my decaying mind & body through the ups and downs of my fight against pain and suffering.”
