Producer and composer Niilas (the moniker of Peder Niilas Tårnesvik) returns with his new single ‘Pyromid’, released on the 6th of October 2023. Hailing from Norway, Niilas pays homage to his indigenous Sámi heritage in his music, which combines folk instruments with electronic textures from an amalgam of genres. Skyrocketing to success from the get-go, his debut album Also This Will Change earned him a Norwegian Grammy Award. He has headlined and appeared at major festivals, received airtime on BBC Radio 1 and earned praise from the likes of ICE, Stereogum, Magnetic Magazine and ElectronicGroove. To boot, he has accumulated over 1 million plays across all platforms.

‘Pyromid’ is distinctly experimental and unique – it deftly dances on the borders between house, techno and ambient. A fat four-to-the-floor beat interspersed with modular-sounding percussion anchors the track from the beginning, while an acid-sounding synth bass cements the groove. A Hardanger-fiddle (Norway’s National Instrument) adds a deeply organic and melodious feel to the song. ‘Pyromid’ feels otherworldly, yet somehow primal and very human. It is an engaging track that will certainly transport the listener to faraway galaxies or the bonfire of an ancient ritual.

Niilas admitted: “I’ve tried to completely let go of my own expectations, and rather try to let the immense changes that the world is going through impact my creative direction. Sort of letting the music river run through me. River Of Noise has both conventional club tracks, and some really interesting collaborations with folk-musicians from both Norway (with the Harding-fiddle) and Iran (Santoor)”.
