Panoram Explores Sonic Ambiguity with ‘The Question’

Rome-based electronic innovator Panoram has returned with his riveting song exploration, ‘The Question’,  released under his own Wandering Eye imprint. A master of genre-defying sounds, Panoram has garnered a cult following in the IDM and experimental music communities, amassing over a million streams and receiving accolades from Pitchfork, Electronic Groove, and The Vinyl Factory. His boundary-pushing approach has landed him slots on Boiler Room and NTS, as well as performances alongside Kraftwerk and Gold Panda at Sónar Festival. Even Radiohead’s Thom Yorke has taken notice, including Panoram’s work in a curated playlist for Sonos. With ‘The Question’, he continues his streak of sonic innovation, crafting an ethereal yet deeply immersive listening experience.

Shrouded in mystery, Raffaele Martirani, the mind behind Panoram, has spent the past decade a key member of Amen Dunes, touring extensively across the U.S. and Europe with stops at Primavera Sound, Roskilde, and Pitchfork Festival. His solo work under the Panoram alias refuses to conform to traditional genre boundaries, blending elements of abstract pop, ambient electronica, and experimental synth music. Releases on acclaimed labels such as Firecracker and Running Back have cemented his reputation as an artist unafraid to embrace detuned synths, lounge influences, and cyborg funk, resulting in a signature sound that exists in a liminal space between nostalgia and futurism.

‘The Question’ is a dreamlike fusion of chillwave, dreamwave, and experimental electronica, drawing comparisons to Com Truise, Boards of Canada, and Oneohtrx Point Never. Layered with airy synths, vocoder=drenched hooks, and reverb-heavy drums, the track creates a sense of suspended time. The song was originally conceived for a video project, with Panoram explaining that he sought to capture “the moment right after a question is asked, before an answer is given, the moment where anything is still possible.” This theme of ambiguity and introspection defines ‘The Question’ reinforcing Panoram’s place as an artist who thrives in the spaces between genres, crafting music that is as elusive as it is emotionally evocative.
