Musical maestro Jasper Sommer released his new single, ‘Memento’, on the 1st of December 2023 via EFG Records Oy. Currently based in Finland, Jasper is an English musician, record producer, and singer-songwriter. He has already received mainstream publication support from notable tastemakers COMPLEX UK and Earmilk, drawing comparisons to the likes of Four Tet and James Blake. In addition, his single preceding ‘Memento’, ‘We Could Rule The World’, has received support from notable tastemaker NOTION Magazine and Numéro Magazine.
‘Memento’ is a melancholic and introspective track exploring themes of attachment, happiness and alienation. The song’s production, done by Jasper Sommer himself, is reminiscent of the works of Jai Paul and James Blake. The song showcases Jasper’s idiosyncratic approach to genre-bending, featuring his smokey but crisp vocal delivery sings a melody that has an air of pop, but it is carried by a meandering, glitchy hip hop rhythm while all remaining distinctly ambient.
Jasper divulged: “The title song of the EP, ‘Memento’, is about holding onto the things that bring us happiness, whilst also learning to let go of the things that no longer serve us.”
