Dare Above Nemo has shared the video for his new single, ‘Everything’s A Countdown’, the latest track to be taken from his debut EP, Mimic EP, out on now.
A vivid and warped visual, the video sees Dare Above Nemo presiding over a hypnotic symbolist feast, with the track blending lush, melodic guitars and fragile vocals to evoke a dark and eerie psychedelic mood that remains tightly grounded in its hook-laden pop roots.
“I wanted the video to be playful and psychedelic,” he explains. “The foods in the video are vibrant with intrinsically spirited characteristics. The act of lighting the candles and incense to place amongst the foods felt like inviting a ghost-like essence into the room.”
With reversed vocal samples and dreamy guitars creating a warped, disassociated dichotomy, the track draws comparison to the likes of Cocteau Twins or The Cure’s Disintegration era, and is the follow-up to his first original single, ‘Be Here Now’, a lysergic blend of synth-pop and dream-pop which was released in November and also features on the upcoming EP.
Dare Above Nemo is the recording project of singer/songwriter, Ethan Attwood-Summers. With inspirations ranging from post-punk and new wave to George Clanton and Warpaint, and references to soundtracks from cartoons, video games and Disney soundtracks abundant, his music is an enigmatic and unique culmination of disparate and eclectic influences rooted in DIY home recording techniques; a process he believes enhances its intimate subtleties.
With the release of his new single and debut Mimic EP, Dare Above Nemo provides us with an infectious and illustrative introduction to his unique brand of nightmare pop.
